About NKES

The National Kannada Education Society (NKES) stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of community and the transformative power of education.

Inspired by the vision of the Bharataratna M. Visvesvaraya, it was established in 1939 with a single class room in a rented premises in Matunga, Mumbai with the mission “Empowerment with Education”.

Over the next eight decades, NKES expanded its activities and built its own sprawling campus spread over nearly an acre in Wadala, Mumbai.

Today NKES conducts courses from Pre-Primary to Post-graduate Management Courses. Details are given in the tale below.

All the above institutions are run from the NKES’s own premises at Indulal D Bhuva Marg, Wadala except pre-primary, which is run from a leased property on Mahilashram Road, Matunga.

Today, more than 2000 students study in NKES every year. A predominant section of this student population, particularly in school, are from underprivileged sections of society who get special support through scholarships, counselling and special coaching.

NKES is governed by Board of Trustees and Working Committee. The members are veterans with substantial experience in Government, Corporate and Entrepreneurial areas with expertise in varied fields such as education, finance, audit, Technology, marketing, banking, social sector and entrepreneurship. They meet periodically and provide necessary oversight, guidance and strategic inputs to ensure smooth running of all sections as well as growth of NKES.

The tradition of academic excellence combined with focus on overall development through sports and cultural activities, continues. In the last eight decades, > 17000 students have passed from NKES and contributed as responsible citizens to the society. Many among them have made a name for themselves in varied fields such as Judiciary, Indian Navy, Corporate, Banking, Finance, Hospitality etc.
